SKinny sophomore to Junior star
Many people could not fathom that Michael Jordan would ever be cut from a basketball team. This is how his high school career began. He was a star on his Junior Varisty team, but he was not a big enough of a star or elite enough to play big minutes on his Varsity squad. The coach also felt that Junior Varsity was a better fit for him, as he was already a star there. Unlike most past NBA stars, Jordan did not play for his Varsity team before his Junior year. Jordan grew from a meager 5'11 his Sophmore year to an adequate 6'3 his Junior year, and became the starting Shooting Guard for the Laney High School Buccaneeers Varsity basketball team. He was a highly coveted prospect coming out of high school, and decided to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
